Can't Stick to a Diet?

Can't Stick to a Diet?

Do you ever have that inner battle with yourself?

Every single week you tell yourself you're going to start again on Monday.

It's this never ending battle of restarting- trying to be healthy, trying to eat healthy, trying not to eat sugar, trying to  get in your exercise.  Then you say to yourself- I will restart on Monday.  So, that weekend before you start (again), you eat treats and snacks, because you are starting again on Monday.

Then Monday comes and you've decided that you're going to eat healthy…. and then you are depriving yourself, and you're feeling grumpy and frustrated.  By Thursday, you're reaching for the cookies, and you're reaching for the chips, and then you're starting to feel bad about yourself. Then you start the cycle again.

And if you are stressed, or fatigue, it can be even more daunting to create those healthy habits. It doesn't have to be this way.

Instead of an ongoing battle with food, we can embrace food as healing for our bodies. Think of food as nourishing, and understand that it can give you the energy, so that you can find balance in other areas of your life, so that you can make your dreams a reality.

I was barely able to get out of bed 20 years ago.  I was in pain, fatigued and discouraged. Over the years I learned ways to help me feel better, and to gain energy

You CAN make the changes- I would love to help you!

So if this sounds like you- tired, stressed, and on the yo-you diet hamster wheel, I want to tell you that there are ways  to eat that will nourish your body.

You'll start to think of food as healing, instead of hurting your body. You can learn how your emotions are tied to what you're eating.

You will learn how things like self -sabotage, laziness guilt, and fear get into the way of you meeting your goals.

And you can learn about staples and indulgences, so that you can eat healthy 80-90% of the time, and and then still have that treat once in a while.

Wrapping Up 2020

Wrapping Up 2020
It is December 1st!!

For countless people, December is a month for celebrating and focusing on family, friends and what’s truly important. It’s a month for great food and fun times . . . and giving gifts.

But before you get out the wrapping paper and ribbon, why not inventory your accomplishments over the past year and recommit to the things you wish you’d done?

Creating Fitness Goals for 2021.
Did you know?

It’s impossible to achieve your dream life without knowing where you are now. When I coach people in the Oola principles, one of the first things we do is find out where they are in life.

Just like when you use your smartphone’s Maps app to get directions, the first thing that shows up is where you are at this moment—represented by a little blue dot. Plug in your destination, and your smartphone will use GPS technology to give you step-by-step, mile-by-mile directions from your current location to your desired endpoint.

But before you can go anywhere, you need to know exactly where you are right now.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be leading you through a where-are-you exercise in the seven areas that I cover in the Oola Coaching Program: fitness, finance, family, field (career), faith, friends and fun. We call these “The 7 F’s of Oola,” and by the time this month is through, you’ll have a checklist of things you’d like to improve. Are you ready?

Let’s look at the very first of The 7 F’s of Oola: fitness.

Fitness is a big one for me- there was  a time that I was tired, sick and had gained weight. I was depressed and anxious, barely able to balance everything in my life. When I focused on this key area- I found strength, energy and health. At 50, I have more energy and feel better than I did at 30.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your health, fitness habits and mental wellbeing? If you answer “1,” that means low/bad/least true, while answering “10” means “high/good/most true”:

  • I would rate my current health....................................  ____
  • How close am I to my ideal weight?.........................  ____
  • I would rate my overall mental health.....................  ____
  • I do 3+ cardio/resistance sessions a week..............  ____
  •  How hard do I push myself during exercise?.........  ____
  • I am active outside of exercise sessions..................  ____
  • I practice relaxation daily..............................................  ____
  • I love my life and have little stress............................  ____

Keep this score handy- and as you visit my blog each week, you will have a checklist of all the things you would like to improve upon in the coming year.

Will You Pivot?

Will You Pivot?

Have you ever seen the episode of friends about when they have to pivot to move the couch? Ross, Rachel and Chandler are trying to get the couch up the stairs, and they have to keep turning it,  and  trying different ways to get the couch up the stairs. This is how 2020 has felt for me, and I think for a lot of people.

There's been so much pivoting in our world,  we were all kind of turned upside down back in March.  For you, maybe your spouse unfortunately lost their job.  Maybe you went from working and being around people every day, to working at home.  Maybe your kids are distance-learning, or they are doing a hybrid thing, and they're learning at home while you're trying to work as well.   Maybe you haven’t been able to spend time with extended family, or haven’t been able to have fun or with your friends social occasions for vacations.

We are trying to make sense in this unbalanced world, and I know that it can be hard to stay positive.  It can be hard to move forward.  It can be hard to find the best in this situation. But,   I am a making “lemonade out of lemons” kind of gal, and I have to try to find the good in what happens.  I have been through more more difficult stuff than 2020- I've lost both of my parents to terrible diseases. I suffered from autoimmune disease-  I couldn't get out of bed, and  I was so sick and tired and suffering depression  a few years ago that I had a break down.

But I don’t let this stuff take me down-  I use these situations to grow and to learn, to get stronger, and then to help others. I think that when we're handed a difficult situation we need to pivot, and try to find the best in whatever that may be.

I have been open to possibilities for learning, even though some things didn't work out the way that I wanted them to back in January.  I was going to be traveling and having fun as I turned 50. But honestly,  I really think that this year has been a blessing to me because I've learned and I've grown, and I making changes that are going to affect my whole entire life.

We spent more time together as a family. I grew relationships with friends,  and my wellness and running community. My husband and I grew our first vegetable garden, and I grew even more grateful for what I had, instead of dreaming about this I wanted.

So, I think that the lesson here is that you're going to be thrown some curveballs in life-whether it is  an illness for you or someone in your family,  job stress,  change in relationships.

There are two ways that we can approach those the situations.  We can be angry and bitter- we can just stay stagnant and just except the change and not do anything about it.

Or we can take those situations, and we can grow from them, learn and pivot.

It is really all up to you. Will you pivot?
