3 Things Holding You Back from Being Ready to Teach
Do you ever have those days where you don’t feel ready to teach? Whether you are a new teacher, a homeschooling parent, or starting to teach at a college or online, we all struggle with not feeling ready sometimes. Here are three lies that may be holding you back and one simple trick to overcome them.

1. "I'm not ready to teach yet."
You’re never going to feel ready. Sometimes you have to push through fear and realize the worst that can happen, might happen, but it won’t be as bad as you imagined. You are your own worst critic, so let go of that standard of perfection and trade it for “you are enough!”

2. "I don't have enough experience."
The only way to get experience is by doing it once, and then twice, until you build your confidence. Get creative with ways to get the experience you need, maybe by volunteering your time to teach friends or family, or taking a job that’s a smaller milestone or transition for you.

3. "I'm not good enough."
If you tell yourself that, unfortunately it will be true. Your mind will start to believe your internal voice. Explore why you think that? Did someone else tell you that? You have the ability to decide what you believe about yourself. It’s also very important for you to surround yourself with people who believe in you! The power of encouraging community is essential.

So don’t let fear take over your world, friend. Here’s my simple trick: Ready, set, go!

Ready helps you remember to acknowledge the fear creeping up. Identify it and call it for what it is! Set means set it in it's place by considering consequences or alternatives. What happens if you do or what happens if you don’t? And finally, go! Have 20 seconds of courage and push through to take action!

The truth is, you are here to make a difference in the world by influencing students. You made the decision to teach because you want to serve and make an impact on others’ lives. It’s time to shine your light! If you need a community for additional resources and support, we'd love to have you in the Teacher's Lounge. See you there!
